Edward Waters College is a very special institution. Founded in 1866, this institution was the trail blazer for independent higher education in the state of Florida. One of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Edward Waters College has a long and rich tradition of providing a quality education to African Americans and individuals from other under served populations who were desirous of acquiring the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to fulfill their potential. Today, Edward Waters College continues to be a beacon of hope for individuals from diverse backgrounds seeking to prepare themselves to become all they can be in a global society.
Edward Waters College is an African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church-related institution which operates under the principles of Christianity. The College is committed to developing students academically, spiritually and physically as they prepare themselves to achieve success. As such, Edward Waters College welcomes students who are willing and eager to acquire the tools for maximizing life’s opportunities as they strive to make a positive difference in their homes, in their communities and in society. At Edward Waters College we focus as much on character formation as we do on academic development because we understand that it takes more than academic achievement to be successful.
Situated in the beautiful tropical-like city of Jacksonville, Edward Waters College enrolls students from across the United States and from foreign countries. Our more than 9,000 alumni continue to make significant contributions to the development of society wherever they find themselves. They celebrate their alma mater and consistently recognize and appreciate the preparation they received here to become successful, productive and contributing citizens.
They are indeed “the proof of the pudding,” living testimonies to the life changing experiences and preparation for personal and professional success they received at Edward Waters College.
In response to world changes and demands, Edward Waters College is reinventing itself to ensure the delivery of current, relevant and cutting edge programs for the 21st century.
